This week

So, has anyone got any energy left after a fantastic weekend’s running? Well done to the massed ranks of Striders who took on the Road2Recovery half marathon, volunteered or supported and those who contributed to a great night at Beacon Hill on Friday. PBs, debuts, loads of laughs…. oh, and a race winner or two 🙂

Outrun this Wednesday (22nd) is 7pm from the Cheney Arms in Gaddesby. Your run leaders for this week are Clive and Jenny Kent (no caveman outfits this time, I’m told, but you never know…). Parking is at a premium, so please car share where possible and park sensibly, leaving some spaces for other customers.

Thursday evening then sees the start of our new weekly structured sessions – 7pm at the Country Park Visitor Centre (after the juniors training). Should be a great addition to the club, a huge thank you goes to everyone involved in getting this up and running.

As always, new runners are welcome to come along to 3 sessions to try us out with no commitment – if you then want to keep coming then it is just £30 per year, with all club sessions absolutely free.

Thursday sessions start 23rd June

Starting on Thursday 23rd June 2016, the club is adding a new weekly structured session for all our senior members.  This is a coached session, around an hour in length including structured warm up and cool down and a focussed session such as fartlek, sprints, hill repeats, relays, etc – all aimed to help our runners develop over time.  Each session is planned in advance by our coaches and will flex to take into account popular local races, spring marathons, etc.

Over the summer months, the meeting point is at Melton Country Park Visitor Centre at 7pm, directly following the junior training session.  Over the winter we will vary the location around town depending on the focus of the session.

The intention is to provide the opportunity for focussed training for motivated athletes, whatever their current ability and also for those keen to get involved in coaching to do so in a supportive, inclusive environment.  Ultimately, we all run for our own reasons and have our own goals – we hope these sessions help us all to achieve them.

Junior training – Spring/Summer 2016

Dear Athlete/Parents

We are coming into spring which means indoor training will come to a stop and we move up to train at the country park.  The last indoor session with be March 17th and the first outdoor session will be April 7th.  We will meet at the visitors centre at 6pm until 7pm.

For those who train on a Tuesday, the last session before Easter will be on the 15th and then we will be back at the MV16 on the 5th April 6.15pm until 7.15pm.

As always it will still be quite cold so we will expect all athletes to come appropriately dressed with warm clothes.  If anyone turns up in just shorts and t-shirt and it is not warm enough they may be sent home.

Any questions, please email Di via the email address on the Juniors page.
