Save the date – AGM, 15th April, 8.30pm

This year’s club AGM will be held at 8.30pm on 15th April 2015 at the usual location – the Dance Studio next to the bar at KE7 Sports Centre.  Agenda and a copy of last year’s minutes will emailed out to members a couple of weeks in advance of the meeting.

As usual, membership fees for the coming year (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2016) will be agreed at the meeting and become due immediately.  We will also have our stock of kit there, so bring some cash!  Orders for club kit that we don’t currently have in stock can be discussed on the night.

Livingston Relays – 3rd May

We are looking to enter teams in the Livingston Relays on Sunday 3rd May.   Run over a 3 mile course, with 4 men or 3 ladies to a team, it would be great to get a few teams of Striders together.  We need to enter in advance, so if you would like to run, please let us know via the usual channels.

Markfield 10k – Sun 8th Feb (updated 05/02)

Please can all our runners who are intending to do the next LRRL race at Markfield on 8th Feb read the attached document that has been circulated by the organisers.  This has since been supplemented by an email, which has been forwarded to all members on our mailing list – essentially parking is severely limited for this race and so runners will need to car share (Striders will be meeting at Wilton Road car park at 9am).

Advisory notice to Running Clubs

Whilst this may not be ideal, we do ask that our runners support the efforts of the organisers in achieving a safe and successful event on Sunday.

Race details are all on the Beaumont RC website and we’ll be meeting at the Wilton Road car park in Melton at 9am for car sharing as usual.  For those new to the LRRL, please see our LRRL page for info on the race series.

Curry run – 28th Jan

In addition to our usual club runs (see diary dates page for all details), our next head torch outrun is a special one.  At the slightly earlier time of 6.30pm on Weds 28th January, we’ll be running from Cafe Mash at Burton on the Wolds (around 5 miles, not too muddy, but you will need a head torch).  If you would like to join us to run and eat, it will cost in the region of £10/£12 per head for a full meal – please let either Rich or Mike know in advance to book your place so that we can confirm numbers.

parkrun has arrived!

After a successful first event this morning, with 262 runners and 20 volunteers braving the elements, parkrun will be taking place in Melton Country Park each Saturday morning at 9am.  A huge thank you should go to Shane for all his efforts in making this happen, with many others making significant contributions – thank you to everyone.

For further details please see the parkrun page, including a link through to all the official information.

Also, Melton Sports are generously offering a 20% discount off non-sale items during January if you flash your parkrun barcode.

Group run – Sunday Jan 11th

We are planning to have a group run on Sunday morning (Jan 11th) in the Beacon Hill/Bradgate Park area.  Meeting 8am at Wilton Road Car Park (to share lifts) or 8.30am at the Sports Ground Car Park, Watermead Lane, Loughborough.

The plan is to run to Beacon Hill, Beacon Plantation, Windmill Hill, Bradegate Park and then a choice of ways back to vary the distance.  There will then be chance to refuel with a late breakfast before heading back.

This should be a really good run – whether as training for the Charnwood Hills, Belvoir Challenge or similar races, or just as an excuse to burn a few calories on an off road run.

2015 club runs

Wednesday evening club runs restart for the New Year on Wednesday Jan 7th with a choice of runs – either a road run in Melton (route 1 – see routes page for more detail) suitable for all abilities, or an off road head torch run from the Stilton Cheese in Somerby (head torch and trail shoes a must).

Full schedule of runs for the next few months is on the diary dates page.
