Being a member club of the Leicestershire Running and Athletics Network gives us access to expertise in a variety of running related areas. John Skevington regularly writes articles on a range of topics of interest to those involved in endurance running and the latest – on nutrition – is attached below.

Previous articles, and other resources that may be of interest, can all be found via the Network website.

Thank you to everyone who came along last night (or sent apologies), all contributions much appreciated.
As ever, the tough bit is that membership fees are now due for the 2015/16 year and so we would ask those that weren’t able to pay last night to bring payment to a club run in the next couple of weeks – if you aren’t likely to be around, Theresa’s address is on the membership form (you can find one on the membership page) if you would like to deliver your payment direct (making clear who it is from!). Rates for the new year are:
Senior: £30
Junior: £10
Joint: £55
Second claim: £20
For those who weren’t able to come along, attached below are a few handouts that are worth a read, including a brief review of the year in numbers, a request for feedback and details of a few upcoming relay events:
Full details circulated to members – AGM (8.30pm) will take place after the club run (7pm start) this Wednesday.

Please can all our runners who are intending to do the next LRRL race at Markfield on 8th Feb read the attached document that has been circulated by the organisers. This has since been supplemented by an email, which has been forwarded to all members on our mailing list – essentially parking is severely limited for this race and so runners will need to car share (Striders will be meeting at Wilton Road car park at 9am).
Advisory notice to Running Clubs
Whilst this may not be ideal, we do ask that our runners support the efforts of the organisers in achieving a safe and successful event on Sunday.
Race details are all on the Beaumont RC website and we’ll be meeting at the Wilton Road car park in Melton at 9am for car sharing as usual. For those new to the LRRL, please see our LRRL page for info on the race series.
This year’s LRRL winter league starts on Sunday 25th January at the Barrow 6. £4 a race, chip timed, great team spirit, the winter league series of races is always worth a go.
If you are new to the winter league, see our LRRL page for more details and for all league race dates simply search “LRRL” in the events diary.
In addition to our usual club runs (see diary dates page for all details), our next head torch outrun is a special one. At the slightly earlier time of 6.30pm on Weds 28th January, we’ll be running from Cafe Mash at Burton on the Wolds (around 5 miles, not too muddy, but you will need a head torch). If you would like to join us to run and eat, it will cost in the region of £10/£12 per head for a full meal – please let either Rich or Mike know in advance to book your place so that we can confirm numbers.
After a successful first event this morning, with 262 runners and 20 volunteers braving the elements, parkrun will be taking place in Melton Country Park each Saturday morning at 9am. A huge thank you should go to Shane for all his efforts in making this happen, with many others making significant contributions – thank you to everyone.
For further details please see the parkrun page, including a link through to all the official information.
Also, Melton Sports are generously offering a 20% discount off non-sale items during January if you flash your parkrun barcode.
