Summer outruns
Our traditional summer outrun season will be continuing with a run from the Three Horseshoes in Whissendine on Wednesday 29th May. The usual format is to meet shortly before 7pm in the car park for a run of around an hour over the fields. We run in a couple of groups and ensure that we all stay together - regularly regrouping at stiles or junctions to ensure no-one is left behind.
These runs are intended to be sociable, and most runners stay for a drink in the pub afterwards. There is also usually a 'quiz' where we all contribute a £1 towards the Air Ambulance charity.
This year's outrun schedule is on the "Outruns" tab of the website - together with Neil's blogs from the runs so far.
Wednesday evening runs in Melton will restart in September - although we are back in town from time to time, so do check out the diary. For anyone pining for a run round the town, our usual winter routes are attached below.
Club Handicap - 5 June
The Handicap Run will be from Hambleton Car Park (the one at the bottom of the hill), at Rutland Water . It is the usual course, about 5.2miles, and totally traffic free. There will be prizes on the night and a trophy. If you intend to run in this fun event, please let Neil know so that he can fix your handicap times. Everyone welcome and don't forget - anyone can win!!
2013 Spring Marathons
Well done Christian, Abi, Theresa and Mike for 2.50, 3.56, 4.04 and 4.37 at London - and Chris for 2.34 and being a tv star! Great efforts. Report is now available on the results tab.
Also well done to Andy and Rich at the Shakespeare (3.48 and 3.45) and John and Louise in Geneva (4.19 and 4.01) - next up is Jim at the Edinburgh Marathon on May 26th - good luck!
2013 Membership Fees
Following the recent AGM, membership fees for the year from 1 April 2013 are now due. These have been set as follows: £25 (Senior), £45 (Joint), £15 (Second Claim). New joiners, please complete a membership form (can be found on the "About us" page) - existing members please pass your subs to Theresa ASAP.
Training plans
Once you have found your target race(s), then it's time to focus on the training. There is a huge amount of information around (with every magazine promising the new best way to improve) but the vast majority is based on the same core principles. See our easy to follow guide at the link below.
Coaching qualifications
The club is on the look out for any members that may be interested in training for a coaching qualification and then providing back up for the existing coaches - we would happily pay for the training, so if you are interested please speak to Di Underwood in the first instance.
Club standards
As an extra motivation for those members who like to race from time to time, the club introduced the club standard awards a couple of years ago. The rules, together with mens standards and womens standards are attached below. In essence, the challenge is to achieve three race times in the year that are better than the standard level you are aiming at - those who achieve either their first award, or the next standard up, will then receive their award at the club's annual awards dinner.
